Elisa Allergy Testing

Question:

My Elisa results show that I am allergic to zucchini and eggs. However, I have been eating these foods and doing well on the SCD. I think I should continue to eat these foods since I’m doing well, but I am confused?

My experience with the Elisa test has been horrible. People who are getting better on SCD for the first time in their odyssey with IBD call and ask me to prescribe a doctor. I used to send them to various and sundry alternative doctors who did the Elisa and they would invariably call back and tell me that even tho they were getting better, all the foods like zucchini, etc. that they were eating they tested positvely to and they did not know what to do. I said the same thing you just said "if it isn't broken, don't fix it!" If the diet is showing you so much improvement, stay with it. The Mother of one of my first consultees is visiting me and is sitting right  here as your question on the Elisa test came through. It was my first experience with it. The family wanted a doctor and I recommended an alternative MD who had been supportive of SCD. However, even tho the youngster was improving on the diet, many of the foods like butterenut squash and almonds showed positive on the Elisa. The family was confused and rightfully so. Since then, I have said that anyone having that test while eating the SAD American diet is not going to test accurately (if it ever tests accurately). And to find a sensitivity to butternut squash (with all due respects to the field of allergy) is insane.
